After a lifelong love affair with video games, I decided to pursue a career in game design. I knew nothing about the game development process, and was guided only by my passion for immersive storytelling. After considering my options (grad school, mostly), I decided to make a go of it my own way, and used grassroots community and self-education to start a career in the industry!
Software Engineer, AltspaceVR
Amber has over ten years experience as a software engineer, but has no formal training in game development and only started creating her own games 18 months ago. Yet those hackathon and game jam projects helped her land a job at AltspaceVR, a small venture-funded startup, where she builds multi-player games and apps that run in virtual reality.
